John Varvatos to serve as designer, judge and honoree for Fifth Anniversary Edition of HSFI "Stretch To The Future" design scholarship competition sponsored by RADICISPANDEX Corporation.

New York, NY, March 31, 2003 - RadiciSpandex Corporation is proud to announce that celebrated men’s wear designer John Varvatos will serve as the Designer Judge and Honoree for the fifth anniversary edition of the "Stretch to the Future" Design Scholarship Competition at Manhattan’s High School of Fashion Industries (HSFI).

Mr. Varvatos will lead a judging panel of fashion industry experts including editors from consumer and trade publications, fabric company executives and HSFI faculty members. The judging will determine the winners of seven scholarships from RadiciSpandex Corp. totaling $4,000. Scholarships are awarded in the areas of men’s wear, women’s sportswear, eveningwear, children’s wear, swimwear, lingerie, fantasy apparel and one Grand Prize selected from all categories. Mr. Varvatos will receive the "Stretch to the Future" Award at HSFI’s year-end fashion show on May 21, when the winning designs will be unveiled. The show is by invitation only for members of the apparel industry.

"The acceptance by John Varvatos to be our Designer Honoree Judge this year adds a new dimension to the evolution of the HFSI "Stretch to The Future" event --- men's fashion," said Bill Girrier, Vice President of Sales and marketing for RadiciSpandex Corp. "John Varvatos brings fresh, young styling that is both chic and hip, modern and traditional. I know the students of HSFI will appreciate and relate to his versatility, appreciation for foreign style and willingness to explore alternative fashion concepts while working within the realities of commercially successful design."

Created in 1999, the "Stretch to the Future" Design Scholarship Competition is an integral element of HSFI’s annual Fashion Show that fosters the creative development of design students while educating them about the technical aspects of garment construction using fashion fabrics containing a highly technical fiber such as elastane manufactured by RadiciSpandex Corp. Every year, RadiciSpandex Corp. invites a well-known designer to head up the judging panel of apparel industry experts. Designers who have received this honor include Betsey Johnson, Steve Madden, Nanette Lepore and Dana Buchman.

Fall 2000 marked the debut of John Varvatos, a lifestyle collection that focuses on signature detailing and an uncompromising standard of old world craftsmanship. Comprised of tailored clothing, sportswear, leather accessories, and footwear, John Varvatos has an eclectic point of view that pairs the luxurious with the casual, ultimately creating a look of easy elegance. Mr. Varvatos has been twice recognized by the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) with an American Fashion Award for New Menswear Designer and Menswear Designer of the Year.

Located in the heart of Manhattan’s Chelsea district, HSFI was founded in 1926 and is the only school in the eastern United States that fully integrates a high school degree program with a fashion industry curriculum. The student body is comprised of residents from all New York City boroughs.
