| RADICISPANDEX CORP. MAKES A SPLASH IN CHRISTINA SWIMWEAR’S
EXTENDED SIZES |
|
The consumer group wearing size 12 and over has been passed over many times when it comes to fashionable, colorful, sophisticated clothing. But fashion and color is exactly what they want! Especially when it’s apparel for under-the-sun wear.
In summer months or in tropical climates full figured women don’t have to feel like fish out of water. For those who enjoy a splash in the pool or in the surf they can dive in fashionably in any water-based activity. Christina Full Figure Collection provides one or two-piece styles in colorful prints and solids that are in line with current swimwear trends. And, they have created these silhouettes to complement and enhance the larger size woman.
The Christina Full Figure Collection is beautifully enhanced by unique abstract and floral prints. Rather than drawing attention to women’s sizes, these prints slenderize their shape in supporting designs that are flattering and comfortable, and in colors that are clear, crisp and vibrant. From an angular shadow stripe effect to this season’s engaging orchid prints, the suits are sophisticated, elegant, and sensational!
The most essential ingredient to the collection’s singular designs is RadiciSpandex S-17B chlorine resistant spandex yarn. Christina selected RadiciSpandex S-17B spandex for their swimwear fashions because of the yarn’s numerous functional benefits.
Because of RadiciSpandex S-17B’s special attributes, the most intricate prints and rich solids reflect true color clarity and maintain their vivid color intensity no matter how long the suits are under the sun or in chlorinated water. In addition, perspiration and UV rays will also be warded off maintaining the suits’ original good looks throughout many seasons.
Comfort is also a prime component in the collection. RadiciSpandex S-17B allows for an easy fit and flattering silhouette. The suits are never too tight or rigid, rather they shape each contour easily while adding support where it really counts.
Statistics reflect that 68% of all American women wear size 12 or above. These are “real” women. Women who may have bigger bone structures, are taller, and are fuller figured.
Christina Full Figure Collection allows women to bask in the sun, or dive into a pool in swimwear that’s designed expressly with their figure type in mind. The styles are bright, sassy and oh so comfortable!

RADICISPANDEX CORP. Announces Student Winners of 2002 "Stretch to the Future" Design Scholarship Competition at New York City's High School of Fashion Industries Dana Buchman Serves as Honored Designer Judge |
|
New York, NY --- The winning designs of the fourth annual "Stretch to the Future" Design Scholarship competition sponsored by RADICISPANDEX CORPORATION were unveiled May 22 at the year-end fashion runway show at Manhattan’s High School of Fashion Industries (HSFI). Carrying the patriotic theme "Stars and Stripes Forever," in honor of the Heroes of September 11, the fashion show culminated in a presentation of $4,000 in scholarship awards to seven students and the participation of noted womenswear designer Dana Buchman, who served as the designer judge and honoree for this year's competition.
Referring to her own experience, Buchman advised the HSFI students to be patient in their pursuit of design careers, to work hard and be confident that their dedication would eventually pay off. Buchman received an engraved glass "Stretch to the Future" award from William Girrier, Vice President of Marketing, RadiciSpandex Corp., who presented the scholarships to the winners. Girrier was particularly taken with this year's HSFI show, which included the appearance of New York City police officers, firefighters and U.S. Marines on the runway dressed in full uniform.
"The students of HSFI are not survivors of September 11. They have prevailed over it," said Girrier. "The mere fact that they developed a whole program around this tragedy and made a special effort to invite and include members of the U.S. military, the New York City police and fire departments was a real testimony to their maturity and understanding of the infrastructure in which they live. They paid respect while having fun and proving that they're getting on with life without forgetting."
On hand to accept their awards were Senior Sherry McNeil, a Brooklyn resident who won the Grand Prize and Eveningwear categories; Manhattan's Caroline Jose, a Senior who won First Runner-Up and Swimwear; Junior Tiffany Dominguez of Queens, who was Second Runner-Up; Senior Viviana Duque, also of Queens, winner in the Men's wear and Children's wear categories, Senior Bobbette Austin of Brooklyn, winner in the Fantasy garment category; Senior Kimberly Cudjoe, Brooklyn, the Lingerie winner and Queens resident Ping Lin who won the Women's Sportswear category.
McNeil's Grand Prize and Eveningwear award-winning garment was a black sleeveless dress featuring dramatic netting and a jagged asymmetric hemline constructed in a leatherette-style fabric from Continental Fabrics. Jose took the First Runner-Up and Swimwear awards with a black-and-white colorblocked and pieced strapless swimsuit with cutouts in fabrics from H. Warshow & Sons and Shason.
Dominguez placed Second Runner-Up for her strapless cobalt-blue evening gown with a shirred body and a ruffled hemline and train in fabric by H. Warshow & Sons and S. Edwards. Duque won the Men's wear category with a two-piece ensemble featuring a hooded sleeveless top and drawstring pant in fabric from S. Edwards. Her patriotic tank dress edged in white with red stars and accessorized with a red shoulder bag took the Children’s wear award with fabric from H. Warshow & Sons and Malden Mills.
In the Fantasy category, Austin proved victorious with her star-spangled corselet-front jacket with "Elvis" collar and scoop-front boy short coordinate in fabric by Shason. Cudjoe won the Lingerie category for her glittering baby doll with asymmetric hemline and matching bikini bottom in a wavy linear fabric from Shason. The Women’s Sportswear award went to Lin for her white slip dress with a ruffled overlay in mesh fabric by Darlington Fabrics.
Led by Buchman, the judging panel included a distinguished roster of fashion and textile industry experts --- Pamela R. Macklin, fashion director, Essence; Jorge Ramon, fashion director, Teen People; Erin Clak, market editor, Children's Business; Victoria Sanchez-Lincoln, fashion director, Latina; Daniela Gilbert, textiles and sport fashion editor at Women's Wear Daily; Janet Peters, Senior Vice President and COO of H. Warshow & Sons; and Barry Ross, President and Director of Sales of Sextet Fabrics.
This year's competition included 46 garments submitted by 18 students --- 11 seniors and seven juniors. Eveningwear proved the most popular category with 12 entries, followed by Women's Sportswear, 10 entries; Fantasy Garment, 9; Swimwear, 7; Lingerie and Men's wear, 3 entries each, and Children's wear with 2 entries. Ten participants reside in Brooklyn, four live in Queens and three are from The Bronx. First Runner-Up and Swimwear winner Caroline Jose was the sole participant from Manhattan.
The "Stretch to the Future" Design Scholarship Competition is an integral element of the HSFI annual Fashion Show that fosters the creative development of design students while educating them about the technical aspects of garment construction using fashion fabrics containing a highly technical fiber such as elastane manufactured by RadiciSpandex Corp., which is based in Fall River, MA. Every year, RadiciSpandex Corp. invites a well-known designer to lead a panel of apparel industry experts in the judging of the students' designs. Previous designer judges and honorees include Betsey Johnson and Nanette Lepore.

RADICI SPANDEX Launches High Temperature Resistant Spandex "TYPE S 45"
A Breakthrough in the Elastane Industry |
|
RadiciSpandex has conquered the elastic fabric industry’s challenging dilemma. How can a converter produce deep, rich, colors in a polyester and spandex blend fabric without disintegrating the spandex and causing streaking and spotting, while still retaining good washfastness?
Until now, this was an impossible feat as high temperatures are required to dye polyester, and these high temperatures will destroy normal spandex yarn. “RadiciSpandex has removed this obstacle with the invention of their 'Type S 45' high temperature resistant elastane," states Bill Girrier, Vice President Marketing RadiciSpandex. "And we are the only fiber company in the market to have this product," he points out. "'Type S 45' is a multipurpose fiber specifically formulated to provide protection from the damaging effects of dyeing at elevated temperatures. S 45 is available in full range of apparel fashion fabric deniers. It's engineered to retain its elastic properties after dyeing at high temperatures of 265°F."
Cyberknit, a division of Paul Gottlieb & Co., Inc., a high-tech fabric converter for the activewear market is the first to adopt "Type S 45." Cyberknit worked in collaboration with RadiciSpandex to develop a spandex fiber that would be heat resistant when dyeing microdenier polyester and spandex. States Menachem Katz, President of Cyberknit, "We are thrilled with the results of RadiciSpandex heat resistant "Type S 45." It has surpassed our expectations. Microdenier polyester is even more difficult to dye than regular polyester, and even this blend with "Type S 45" results in dark colors that are deeper and richer, something that was not possible with conventional elastane."
Polyester is a favored fiber in apparel. When "Type S 45" spandex is knitted with microdenier polyester fiber, the combination is dynamic and perfectly suited for active apparel. In addition to having the desirable appearance the fabric actually performs better than cotton. Moisture from the body is carried to the surface allowing the fabric to dry faster keeping the individual more comfortable no matter how demanding the sport.
Cyberknit has adopted the fabric for activewear companies such as Fila, Hot-Chillys, Saucony, and an upscale equestrian manufacturer of apparel called Ariat International Inc. All have incorporated RadiciSpandex "Type S 45" fabrics in their collections. "Most activewear companies seek out richer colors in their collections. We are happy to finally provide our customers with what they have been seeking," states Menachem Katz.

| RADICI SPANDEX
Makes Waves and Wins Raves
In Swimwear For 2002
|
|
2002 swimwear bursts with color and happy prints. Bold patterns feature primary color mixes while diminutive motifs and fashion abstracts line up in neat formation.
There’s a trend to more conservative designs that slim and trim the feminine form. One-piece silhouettes take the lead this season with longer versions of tankinis right on the heels in popular vote. Two-piece designs are still in the mix though it’s the younger customer that will select them.
An important factor in this year’s swimwear offerings is the integration of RadiciSpandex Type S-17B chlorine resistant fiber in swimwear fabrics. Swimwear fabrics that incorporate Type S-17B are protected from the damaging effects of chlorine, UV rays, suntan oils and perspiration, so no matter how much the swimwear bakes in the sun or swims in chlorinated pools, suits will keep their good-as-new looks for many seasons to come.
Form and function coexist magnificently in fabrics that are eye-catching while offering superior performance. In addition, comfort is a primary ingredient no matter what aquatic silhouette suits a woman this year. Type S-17B spandex by RadiciSpandex provides the essential accent to the fashion and fit factor. Because texture, vivid colors, and chlorine-resist components are essentials that punctuate the season’s swimwear, manufacturers will be looking to fabrics with RadiciSpandex as an important contributor to their fashion mix.
Fabric companies that have adapted RadiciSpandex S-17B into their swimwear collection are Christina Swimwear, Charbert, Continental, Coveille, Tricot Man.
RadiciSpandex Corporation is part of the Radici Group that was founded in 1946 as a household textile manufacturer. As a result of a business strategy of vertical integration and diversification the Group has growth to be a multibillion dollar entity with over 6,000 employees working in 60 production facilities worldwide. Business activities range from synthetic fibers to chemicals, plastics, engineering services, packaging and textile machinery. Everywhere you look, most things you wear and use are made of products supplied by Radici Group companies.

| RADICISPANDEX – 2001 - A year of Change and Positioning
Lean… Innovative… and Focused |
|
Subsequent to Radici Group purchasing Globe Manufacturing in March 2001 and re-naming the company RADICISPANDEX Corporation, the new entity has installed new leadership, consolidated and focused its manufacturing operations, taken control of costs and restructured its business plan. It’s a new company with new initiatives, a new culture, pragmatic goals that are in touch with its markets and new products that are planned for launching in early 2002.
While 2001 has been a year of change and challenge in a tough market, RADICISPANDEX is better for it. Sales are improving (November revenues were up over 10% from this summer) as the company continues to gain momentum and recovers from losses associated with the Globe bankruptcy. Customer relationships are strengthening and new products are ready for launch. The company has an international outlook and market sense that it shares with all of its trading partners. Coming up are a number of new products which include heavy denier product lines targeting narrow fabrics and personal care products, and a special spandex fiber principally suited for use with micro denier polyester hard yarns for fashion, activewear, automotive, and home furnishings fabrics. Says Bill Girrier, Vice President of Marketing and Sales, “This market is hard work, but we’re hitting our numbers. It’s a week-to-week, month-to-month proposition and we’re not taking anything for granted. If something isn’t working, we switch gears."
RADICISPANDEX has evolved into a world-wide supplier of spandex fiber distributing its products through a vast network reaching the entire western hemisphere, east and west Europe and Asia with the expert guidance and support provided by the Radici Group, RadiciNylon and the global Radici Fibers distribution network.
Order fulfillment systems have been reengineered to provide the best in delivery and after-market customer service. While RADICISPANDEX cannot supply the needs of the entire spandex market, those customers partnering with RADICISPANDEX will experience the comfort of dealing with a world-class textile fiber manufacturer. “In our business, the relationship has to be a technical partnership based on value. Radici Group companies believe in technological solutions that are conceived and implemented by people who are our greatest resource,” explains Fabrizio Calenti, President and CEO. “After a year of consolidations we are finished with our streamlining of operations. The Gastonia and Tuscaloosa facilities are running more efficiently as stable manufacturing platforms and we can now focus on the future. The industry should know that these two facilities are in full operation and they have the support of the parent company. We have now reached a phase where the market will see less change and more stability from us.”
“The elastic fabric business climate in all of its forms has been difficult for a long time, not just because of the September 11th terrorist attacks,” Girrier points out. “However, we have found that our segments of the business can be quite active with a little creativity in the short term while keeping our eyes on a longer term strategic business approach. We’re taking the opportunity of the slow market to refine our product mix, re-engineer processes and evaluate the different market segments for profitability and then focusing on selective market share growth. We’re also evaluating the activities of our competitors and making logical, long term decisions rather than emotional moves. Businesses are failing and giants are being brought to their knees because they still conduct their practice on old assumptions. RADICISPANDEX is deliberately keeping up with new developments and building new strategies to keep up with the needs of the times. This will ensure that our business enterprise is as healthy as it can be so our clients can rely on us for their needs now and in the future. For instance, our robust Type S-85 product line is really proving itself in the Circular Knit trade and our very versatile Type S-17B semi-dull chlorine resistant product is being used widely in Warp Knits on several continents.”
A core strategy centers on impeccable business-to-business service in all of its forms backing problem free products. Local distribution is now established in Charlotte, NC, Los Angeles, Italy, Brazil and Turkey with new warehouses planned in Colombia and Asia.
Based in Italy, THE RADICI GROUP is a
multi-billion dollar entity that employs 9,000 employees in 68
factories worldwide. The company is a multi-national, multi-ethnic
industry player whose integrated business activities range from
synthetic fibers to chemicals, plastics, packaging and textile
machinery. Synthetic fibers (nylon, polyester, polypropylene and

| Sun-Sational swimwear hits the beaches with slimming effects in Glospan ® S-17B Spandex Yarn |
| After months of wearing layers of clothing women will be exposing their bodies to the sun in swimsuits that are bare and spare. This year's bevy of choices include swimsuit silhouettes that offer many alternatives to the figure types that require a little assistance in accenting the positive and eliminating the negative.
Christina Swimwear designs a collection in Glospan ® spandex fabrics that cover the young in spirit, the indulgent, the sophisticate and the trend watcher, in styles that are fashion-current, colorful, and complimentary to almost every silhouette.

Colorful "designer" florals, geometric color blockings, sheer delights, and preppy plaids will beckon mermaids and sun worshippers alike to the Christina Summer 2001 swimwear collection. For instance, a Pucci-like print is interpreted in a two-piece swimsuit that through stretch fabrics made with Glospan ® spandex presents figure dazzling results. The bosom enhancing contour bra coordinates to a waist flattering high cut V-shape brief. And, for the full figure woman, a sophisticated and slimming design has been created through a color block top that's meant to partner with a flattering solid brief. The look tapers the silhouette by shape and color. On a glamorous note, a feminine and delicate one piece maillot gives the mid section a sheer lacy definition. Accompanying the silhouette is a fringed scarf that can be wrapped around a waist or around the shoulders. The preppy followers will love the colorful two-piece plaid duo that's designed in a flattering bra top and boy leg brief.
Swim Wrap® by Christina is a revolutionary swimsuit collection that enhances the natural curves of a woman's body. Its revolutionary patented seamless inner control liner does the magic by secretly supporting, flattening, lifting and shaping. Swim Wrap® has been created exclusively in Glospan® spandex for extraordinary support and control.
Christina chose to design their swimwear in these directional looks featuring fabrics with Glospan® spandex yarn by Globe Manufacturing Corp. Prints and solids in Glospan® S-17B spandex yarn reflect true color clarity and maintain the vivid color intensity no matter how long the suits are out in the sun or in chlorinated water. Perspiration and UV rays will also be out of mind because the color integrity and fabric durability will out last the fashion trend waves.
For Summer 2001 women will make a splash in the season's new and sun-sational figure enhancing swim set styles by Christina. They're fun, they're flattering, and they're designed to suit a strictly personal and aesthetic need.

| Pratt Institute students stretch their creativity with a new visual for Globe Manufacturing
|
| In an effort to develop a unique image for consumer related products made with woven S-t-r-e-t-c-h fabrics, Globe Manufacturing Corp., manufacturers of Glospan® spandex yarn, has invited design students from Pratt Institute's Associate Degree Program to stretch their creative minds. The assignment is to design a new consumer related hangtag that would be featured on fashion apparel, accessories and home fashions products.
The objective of the task is to produce a unique hangtag that focuses on the concept of S-t-r-e-t-c-h. It should invite consumers to take a closer look at products made with elastane (commonly referred to as spandex) stretch fibers. States Preston Kelly, Manager-Stretch Wovens for Globe Manufacturing, "Consumers are enjoying the benefits of stretch in the apparel they wear. They like the way the products fit, last, and feel which adds up to comfort and easier care." He adds, "Though consumers like products incorporating stretch they may not be aware of what makes them look and wear so well. Through the efforts of the young talent at Pratt Institute we hope to come up with a unique visual solution that will immediately identify stretch products in addition to pointing out what makes them so comfortable."
Young, talented and enthusiastic, Pratt Institute AOS students will have the freedom to create and execute their ideas without limitations. Rather than going through traditional channels that offer preconceived ideas, Globe Manufacturing approached this creative design school for the singular opportunity an environment such as Pratt provides. This project also offers students the chance to develop a pragmatic concept that is challenging and rewarding since the winning design of this competition will be ultimately produced and used in a real commercial application.
In the initial meeting Preston Kelly instructed the students on the fundamentals of stretch fabrics and outlined the goals and focus of the project. As background, the students were asked to supplement the instruction by visiting retail locations to review products made with stretch fabrics, study the visuals that were linked with the product, and develop ideas that better underline the information.
With extensive professional accomplishments in graphic design, Pratt Institute instructors and professors provide the students with industry experience while challenging them to develop new solutions that are creative and functional.
The professors and instructors for the Globe Manufacturing S-t-r-e-t-c-h assignment are: Steven Brodeur who is Pratt's professor of Graphic Design 2, a course that involves problem solving approaches to finding the most effective arrangement of graphics and type. Rafael Morales is an art director with experience in advertising and design. He has created print advertising, television commercials and campaigns. He teaches a two-year Associates Program at Pratt, focusing on interactive media and commercials. With over 15 years of professional graphic design and advertising experience, Harley P. Goode has 12 years of innovative graphic classroom instruction. Currently he teaches a class in graphic design in the Pratt Associates Degree Program.
"This is a unique opportunity for our students", states Mark O'Grady, Chairperson of Associate Degree Program. "It not only allows our students to take part in an industry's problem solving solution, the winning designs will also be produced and out there in the commercial world. What a wonderful project to be included in the students' portfolio."
The judging will be conducted in February. Students' works will be judged by, members from fashion's trade and consumer press, advertising agency representatives, Globe Manufacturing executives, and select Pratt Institute design department authorities. A grand prizewinner will be announced along with 1st and 2nd prize winners of the contest.
